Michael “MASSY THE CREATOR” Dacosta has been in the music industry since 2000 when he was signed to the Daseca music label under the moniker Massyka. Although the Daseca label saw significant growth in the early 2000s, Massy decided to move to the US to pursue a Bachelor’s Degree in Audio and Video Production. While completing his studies in Minnesota, he managed to build a fanbase and began performing. His audience had even expanded to New York, California and Florida. When he returned to Jamaica in 2007, Massy continued to pursue his music career.
The past few years have seen an evolution in Massy’s career. His newest release entitled “Future Roots” is his debut album under the name Massy the Creator. He describes this album as a representation of reggae music in its evolved state. This is prevalent in the single “Pressure.” This eye-opening single is intended for the youth of today. The song states:
No Minds of their own
because di yute dem nah read between di lines
The signs have been shown
Dem need fi read between di lines
Massy pleads with them to be more aware of what is going on in the world around them. He feels that the pressure is on him to save his people and those who have been lead astray by the media and other outside influences.
